New Year has not yet arrived, but the year passing will be remembered as the year of repentance of the buyers, if we talk about the social media and politicians.
Justin Trudeau, the Canadian PM, has come to this power 3 years back. He is considered to be the most tech savvy or we better say digitally savvy young prime minister in the history of Canada.
But on Monday, Nov. 12, 2018, during an interview in Paris, Justin Trudeau left us in shock. His remarks about the social media and politics were so unbelievable. He actually praised the traditional journalism methods for the politicians rather than the social media domain which is unraveling the politics.
He said in his interview that, the institution that was once free and now under the most threat is the respected media. He further said that, if people want to have the pure form of democracy, then an educated and informed public is needed to function in a better democratic way, which are well aware about when to take decisions like to whom they want to grant which power and from whom they want to take it back at the right time.
He added in his remarks about the social media that, social media is a platform through which people can be misguided easily. Through social media platform, they can be made angry, they can be made divided, and they can be made to hate their own neighbors easily.
Justin Trudeau believed that social media is helping the Government to spread their words easily like for sending the condolence or so, but it has also started the race to bottom for the political conversation over this platform.
He said that if you have a screaming match among two teams, the team which is more nasty will surely win the match. That is how he related the political conversation over social media with the match of screaming. However, if we focus on his point, we will find it a true story unfortunately.
If we look at the whole year of 2018, we will find that this is the year which is more destructive for the social media and politics. He did not mention the name of Donald Trump, the President of America and his way of Social media use for politics, but it was clear that Trudeau was referring to his habits of using social media for the political purpose.
By seeing many other political stories during the year, we will definitely agree with the remarks of Justin Trudeau that social media was once cool and fun, but now it is providing more harm and getting more dangerous for us all and especially for the politicians.
This was not just referred to the ongoing issue of Russian hacking the data worldwide; we also remember the Cambridge Analytica controversy of Facebook data that was used to aid the particular political party. This issue was also observed at the start of this year and later on many such incidents are threatening the bond of politics and use of social media.
